It seems almost certain that Dan James is permanently departing United for rivals Leeds, with the Welshman not guaranteed much gametime with the reds given the recent additions of the likes of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo. With the sum rumoured around £25-£30 million, it's hard to dispute that United have done good business here. Signing him for £15 million from Championship Swansea, it was no doubt worth the punt to take Dan onboard in the summer of 2019 after a failed move to Leeds that January. He has by no means been a failure at United, with Solskjaer helping him to improve massively over the last two years (as shown by his market value increase). Many managers within the Premier League wanted the winger this summer, which is testament to just how much talent he does possess.
He started really well at United, scoring off the bench on his debut against Chelsea in the 4-0 victory. The opening spell was stellar, but there were few subsequent phases that saw him reach those heights again. Teams began to figure out Dan, with the player beginning to struggle against teams who invited possession against their low block. On the break, however, very few are better. He may not have been the right fit latterly at United, but that's not to say he can't thrive when allowed time to establish some consistency elsewhere in a better-suited system. For example, he was standout for Wales at the Euros. He deserves to go somewhere where he can fully fulfil his vast potential.
One thing that has to be acknowledged is his admirable attitude - he always gave his all whatever the situation. He is someone who really inspires others to work their absolute hardest. It meant so much to Dan to be granted the chance to play for Manchester United, constantly playing with a display of utmost passion and energy. He undoubtedly honoured his late father, who sadly died a few weeks prior to his son's move the United - he'd be remarkably proud.
Dan's conduct has always been exceptional, with perfect professionalism and character within his repertoire. He remains a youngster with masses of potential, and someone who is by no means shy of a challenge. I only have good things to say about him, and wish him the absolute best wherever his career takes him. He will remain the epitome of this ongoing United project.
