A host of United players have impressed within the first week of the Euros, with Victor Lindelof and Paul Pogba both picking up 'Star of the Match' awards during the opening round of matches. The former was vital to completing a shutout against Spain on Monday, whilst the latter was an integral controlling feature to his France side alongside Kante's more defensive presence as they narrowly beat Germany the following day. Rashford was limited to a late cameo for England on Sunday, though Fernandes was ever-present in Portugal's convincing win over Hungary. Across the Atlantic, Fred was technically and defensively excellent in Brazil's comfortable victory over Venezuela.
The one name I haven't mentioned is Dan James - somebody who has really come to the fore for an impressive Wales side. He was certainly a force in their draw to Switzerland on day two prior to controversially being substituted; this influence was exacerbated by his showing in yesterday's 2-0 win over Turkey.
Both on and off the ball, he has proved a nuisance with his dizzying runs in conjunction with his electrifying pace. The runs off the ball have really aided creation of space in the final third, allowing his side more opportunities. Meanwhile, his confidence to take men on has troubled both opposition so far - helping to draw fouls as well as win set pieces, whilst enhancing attacking threat otherwise as he darts at players.
There has been proof of his capabilities on either foot, with James both crossing and cutting in from the left hand side where he has been stationed for the most-part. Technically, he was incredibly sound against Turkey on most occasions: he maintained an 80% passing accuracy whilst completing five crosses throughout. In addition, he created four chances during the game - a feat only bettered on very few occasions during the tournament so far.
The constant exertion of pressure, which is huge credit to his desire as a player, was apparent throughout yesterday's fixture. The impact that James provides out of possession certainly cannot be understated. He won seven duels against Turkey, whilst completing six recoveries - almighty for a winger! There is a persistent determination from the Welshman to press whenever possible, in addition to the aforementioned ambition to surge forward and trouble defences.
James, as well as multiple other reds with their international sides, is really coming to the fore so far this tournament.
